Sole City Youth Dance Ensemble – Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Sole City Dance
11:00 AM for Intensive Levels II & III
The Sole City Dance Ensemble is a group of auditioned dancers who have the opportunity to learn additional choreography and participate in additional performance opportunities while representing Sole City Dance in the community and around the region.
Philosophy:
The Sole City Dance Ensemble provides the opportunity for passionate, committed dance students to learn more and challenging choreography as well as participate in special performance and learning opportunities in the community and beyond. Each year, they participate in Sole City Dance’s Dance Rochester! Festival performances and master classes. Other opportunities typically include dancing at locally sponsored festivals and an annual trip to Boston or New York City to see shows and attend classes.
Sole City Dance is a non-competitive dance program. We do not participate in the dance competition industry because we believe it stresses students financially and detracts from their understanding of dance as an art. SCD ensemble programs are instead designed to encourage the development of hard work, team work, creative thought and the appreciation of artistic endeavors of all kinds. We organize events which will inspire students through exposure to other dancers and choreographers, both student and professional, who have achieved high-level creative, technical and performance skills. The Sole City Dance Ensemble is also a vehicle for SCD to demonstrate the quality of its programs to others.
Requirements:
Eligible dancers are those studying in SCD’s Intensive Track Program (attending 3 classically-based technique classes per week in jazz and/or ballet.) For Intensive Prep, 2 classically-based classes per week.
Generally rehearsals are held on Friday afternoons/evenings and Saturday. Specific times TBA based on choreography and dancer availability.
Fees:
$60 per dance plus costume fees. We make every effort to keep these costs down. Please approach us if you are willing to shop or sew for us!
Choreographers:
Both SCD faculty as well as guest choreographers set pieces on the ensemble.
Performance Schedule:
March 24, Rochester Opera House. Other venues as booked. Rehearsals for those TBA.
Attendance Policy:
After 1 missed rehearsal or performance (for ANY reason), dancers may be replaced in the choreography at the discretion of the choreographer.
